PDF to Image Formula & Calculation

Each PDF page → rendered to an HTML canvas at a set scale/zoom → exported as PNG/JPG (zipped if multi-page)

This tool uses Mozilla's open-source pdf.js library to parse the PDF and render each page onto an HTML5 canvas element entirely in your browser — the same rendering engine behind Firefox's built-in PDF viewer. Each canvas is then exported as an image file (PNG/JPEG) via the browser's canvas-to-image API; when a PDF has multiple pages, the resulting images are bundled into a ZIP (using JSZip) for a single download.

Because rendering happens locally, image sharpness depends on the render scale/viewport you choose — higher scale means a larger, sharper image but more memory and processing time per page.

Key Factors That Affect Your Result

  1. Render scale/zoom — Higher scale produces sharper, larger images (useful for printing or detailed viewing) at the cost of slower rendering and bigger file sizes; lower scale is faster for quick previews.
  2. Vector vs scanned PDFs — Text-based (vector) PDFs render crisply at any scale; PDFs that are themselves scanned images will only be as sharp as the original scan, regardless of render scale.
  3. Client-side limits — Very long PDFs (50+ pages) rendered at high scale can be slow or memory-heavy since every page is rendered in the browser; consider lower scale or splitting the PDF for large documents.
