GST Invoice Generator Formula & Calculation

Line GST = Rate × Qty × GST% ÷ 100 | Intra-state: CGST = SGST = Total GST ÷ 2 | Inter-state: IGST = Total GST

Each line item carries its own GST% (you can enter any rate — the current official slabs since the GST 2.0 reform of 22 Sep 2025 are 0, 5, 18 and 40%), since different goods/services on the same invoice can attract different rates. The tool sums Qty × Rate per line to get the taxable value, applies that line's GST% to get the GST amount, then totals all lines.

The supply-type toggle decides the tax split: for Intra-state supply (buyer and seller in the same state) the total GST is split equally into CGST and SGST; for Inter-state supply (different states) the full amount is charged as IGST instead — never both.

Example: A web design line of ₹15,000 at 18% GST = ₹2,700 GST → intra-state invoice shows CGST ₹1,350 + SGST ₹1,350; an inter-state invoice shows IGST ₹2,700 instead.

Key Factors That Affect Your Result

  1. GST slab per line — Each item can carry a different rate (0/5/12/18/28% in this tool); applying the wrong slab to a line item is the most common invoicing error. Note: since the GST 2.0 reform (22 Sep 2025) the official slabs are 5/18/40 — double-check your item's current rate before invoicing rather than relying on an old 12%/28% habit.
  2. Supply type — Choosing Intra-state vs Inter-state determines whether you charge CGST+SGST or IGST. Charging the wrong one is a compliance issue even if the total tax amount matches.
  3. GSTIN on invoice — A valid invoice for registered businesses must show both seller and buyer GSTIN; omitting it can block the buyer from claiming Input Tax Credit.
