  2. Choose the conversion direction: CGPA → Percentage, or Percentage → CGPA
  3. Enter your CGPA (out of 10) or your percentage, and the result updates instantly

  5. Check the grade reference table below to see where your result falls (Outstanding, First Class, etc.)

CGPA Calculator Formula & Calculation

Percentage = CGPA × Multiplier + Offset (multiplier/offset depends on university convention)

Different Indian universities publish different official conversion formulas: Generic/most universities and job applications use ×10 (no offset); Anna University uses ×10 − 7.5; VTU uses ×10; CBSE and Delhi University use ×9.5. A custom mode lets you enter any multiplier and offset if your institution uses a different convention.

Example: CGPA = 8.5 under the CBSE convention (×9.5) → Percentage = 8.5 × 9.5 = 80.75%. The same 8.5 CGPA under Anna University's convention (×10 − 7.5) → 8.5 × 10 − 7.5 = 77.5% — nearly 3.25 percentage points lower for the identical CGPA.

Key Factors That Affect Your Result

  1. University-specific formula — There is no single universal CGPA-to-percentage formula in India; always confirm your institution's officially published formula (on the marksheet or university website) before using a converted percentage for an application, since the wrong formula can misrepresent your score by several points.
  2. Grade point scale — This assumes a 10-point CGPA scale (the most common in India); if your institution uses a 4-point scale, the conversion logic is entirely different and this calculator's presets would not apply.
  3. Use case caveat — Many employers and foreign universities now accept CGPA directly without conversion — check whether a percentage conversion is actually required before relying on one for admissions or job applications.
