  5. All common Indian units (maund, tola, gaj, bigha) are supported alongside metric and imperial

Unit Converter Formula & Calculation

Result = (Input Value × From-Unit Factor) ÷ To-Unit Factor, via a common base unit

Every unit in a category (Length, Weight, Speed, Area, Volume) is defined by a fixed conversion factor relative to one base unit — for example, Length uses Meter as the base, so Kilometer = 1000, Foot = 0.3048, Mile = 1609.344. To convert, the input value is first multiplied by its unit's factor to get the equivalent in the base unit, then divided by the target unit's factor.

Temperature is handled separately because it's not a simple multiplicative scale — it requires offset formulas: Celsius→Fahrenheit = (C × 9/5) + 32, and Celsius→Kelvin = C + 273.15 (zero points differ between scales, so a multiply-only factor approach doesn't work).

Example: Converting 5 Miles to Meters → 5 × 1609.344 (Mile's factor) = 8046.72 meters. Converting 100°F to Celsius → (100 − 32) × 5/9 = 37.78°C.

Key Factors That Affect Your Result

  1. Base-unit method — Routing every conversion through one base unit (rather than defining direct factors between every possible pair) keeps the numbers consistent and avoids compounding rounding errors across many unit pairs.
  2. Regional land units — Area includes region-specific traditional units like Bigha (UP), Bigha (Bengal), and Guntha alongside metric/imperial ones — useful for Indian real estate and agricultural land calculations, but these vary by local custom so always confirm the exact regional definition before relying on them for legal/official purposes.
  3. Temperature is non-linear — Unlike length or weight, you cannot just multiply to convert temperature; the fixed offset (32° for Fahrenheit, 273.15° for Kelvin) means a temperature "factor" would give wrong answers, which is why it's computed with dedicated formulas instead of the shared factor table.

Frequently Asked Questions

1 kilometre = 0.621371 miles. Multiply km by 0.621371. Example: 10 km = 6.21 miles.

1 kilogram = 2.20462 pounds. Multiply kg by 2.20462. Example: 70 kg = 154.32 lbs.

Formula: °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32. Example: 37°C (body temperature) = 98.6°F.

One Bigha varies by state. In Uttar Pradesh, 1 Bigha = 27,000 sq ft. In West Bengal, 1 Bigha = 14,400 sq ft. In Rajasthan, 1 Bigha = 27,225 sq ft.
