PPF Calculator Formula & Calculation

A = P × [{(1 + r)ⁿ − 1} × (1 + r)] ÷ r (for equal yearly deposits)

P = Yearly deposit | r = Annual rate (7.1% for FY 2026-27) | n = Years (min 15)

Example: ₹1,50,000/year (maximum limit) for 15 years at 7.1%: Maturity ≈ ₹40,68,209. Total invested = ₹22,50,000. Tax-free gain = ₹18,18,209.

Bonus: At 30% slab, ₹1.5L in PPF saves ₹46,800 in tax each year → Over 15 years, tax saved = ₹7,02,000.

Key Factors That Affect Your Result

  1. Deposit timing — Depositing before the 5th of each month earns interest for that full month. Depositing in the first week of April earns interest for the entire financial year — worth ₹10,000+ extra annually on a ₹1.5L deposit.
  2. Extension after 15 years — PPF can be extended in 5-year blocks indefinitely, with or without fresh deposits. Continuing without fresh deposits still earns 7.1% tax-free — ideal for retirees.
  3. EEE tax status — PPF is Exempt-Exempt-Exempt: the deposit qualifies for 80C deduction, the annual interest is tax-free, and the maturity amount is fully tax-free. No other guaranteed instrument in India offers this.
  4. Partial withdrawal — Allowed from the 7th year (Year 7 onwards). Loan against PPF available from Year 3 to Year 6 at 1% above PPF rate. Useful as emergency fund layer.
