Rebate Invoice Generator Formula & Calculation

Rebate Amount = Consumed Value × Rebate% ÷ 100 | GST = Rebate Amount × GST% ÷ 100 | Payable = Σ(Rebate Amounts) + GST

This tool is built for billing a percentage-based rebate, commission or brokerage against amounts already consumed/billed on a separate original invoice. For each line, the rebate is computed as a percentage of the 'Consumed' value (not the full original invoice), and GST is then calculated on that rebate value — not on the underlying consumed amount — since only the rebate/commission portion is the taxable supply here.

As with the other GST documents, Intra-state supply splits the GST into equal CGST + SGST, while Inter-state supply shows it as a single IGST line.

Example: ₹2,00,000 consumed against an original invoice, with a 5% rebate = ₹10,000 rebate amount. At 18% GST (intra-state): GST = ₹1,800 → CGST ₹900 + SGST ₹900 → Total payable = ₹11,800.

Key Factors That Affect Your Result

  1. GST applies to the rebate, not the consumed amount — A common mistake is charging GST on the full consumed value instead of just the rebate/commission percentage; this tool deliberately taxes only the rebate amount.
  2. Reference to original invoice — Each line should cite the original invoice number it is rebating against, since tax authorities expect a rebate/commission note to be traceable to the underlying transaction.
  3. TDS consideration — Commission and brokerage payments in India are often subject to TDS under Section 194H; this tool has a TDS% field but TDS is deducted by the payer separately from the GST shown here — don't confuse the two.

Frequently Asked Questions

It's for billing a percentage-based rebate or commission — for example, a reseller passing back a percentage of a client's actual consumption (like cloud service usage) as a rebate, referencing the original invoice each amount is based on.

Amount = Actually Consumed × Rebate Ratio (%). Each line item calculates its own rebate amount automatically as you type, and the Grand Total sums all line items.

A rebate or commission is generally treated as a taxable supply of service under GST, separate from the original transaction it references — so GST is calculated on the rebate total itself, not the original consumed amount. Confirm the correct tax treatment with your accountant for your specific situation.

The original invoice each line item's rebate is based on — e.g. the invoice you (or a client) received for the underlying consumption or purchase. It's a reference field, not a GST tax invoice number for this document.

Yes — the Rebate Ratio field is set individually for each line, so you can mix different percentages (e.g. 6% for one client, 8% for another) in the same invoice.
