Frequently Asked Questions

JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight, text-based data interchange format. It uses key-value pairs and arrays. It is the most common format for REST API responses and configuration files.

JSON is more compact, human-readable, and natively supported in JavaScript. XML uses tags (verbose), supports attributes, and has better schema validation tools. JSON has largely replaced XML in web APIs.

Paste your JSON into a formatter/validator. Valid JSON requires: strings in double quotes, no trailing commas, correct nesting, and proper data types (string, number, boolean, null, array, object).

JSON supports null (explicit empty value). JSON does NOT support undefined (JavaScript-only concept). If a key has undefined value in JavaScript, it is omitted from JSON serialization.

Minification removes all whitespace (spaces, newlines, indentation) from JSON to reduce file size. Minified JSON is harder to read but smaller to transfer over networks. Use pretty-print/formatting for human editing.
